Chicken and dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- eggs, added to milk - 2 item
How to make chicken and dumplings:
I use 1/2 this recipe for my family of 4.Sift flour, baking powder and salt 4 times. Cut in shortening with a knife, then crumble with fingers until the texture of cornmeal. Add a small amount of milk to the beaten eggs. Mix with flour mixture to a very stiff dough. Add more milk if necessary. Knead a few times. Roll to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut in squares. Have chicken and broth to the boiling point. Drop a layer of dumplings in. Cover and cook 3 or 4 minutes. Stir and add another layer; continue until all are used, cooking between each layer.
