Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • Crisco - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • parsley - 2 Tbsp
  • stewing chicken, cut up - 1 item
  • carrot, sliced - 1 item
  • small onion, cut up - 1 item
  • celery ribs with leaves - 4 item

How to make chicken and dumplings:

Dumplings:1 c. flour2 tsp. baking powder1/2 tsp. salt1/2 c. milk2 Tbsp. Crisco2 Tbsp. parsley In Dutch oven, add enough water to chicken to cover. Add celery, carrot, onion, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Cover; bring to a boil and simmer 2 hours or until tender.

Dumplings: Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Combine milk and Crisco; add with chopped parsley to dry ingredients. Stir just to moisten. Drop from tablespoon directly onto chicken in boiling broth. Cover tightly; return to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 12 to 15 minutes without lifting lid.
