Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • water - 3 4
  • shortening - 1/3 c
  • cornmeal - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/4 c
  • can tomato sauce - 1 oz
  • chopped green pepper - 1/4 c
  • ground beef - 1 lb
  • oregano - 1/2 tsp
  • dry bread crumbs - 1/2 c
  • shredded Cheddar cheese about 8 oz - 2 c
  • Pie Crust - 1 item
  • Cheese Topping - 1 item
  • Cheese Topping:1 egg
  • each salt, dry mustard and Worcestershire sauce - 1/2 tsp

How to make cheeseburger pie:

Pie Crust:1 c. flour2 Tbsp. cornmeal3 to 4 Tbsp. water1/3 c. shortening Cheese Topping:1 egg1/2 tsp. each salt, dry mustard and Worcestershire sauce1/4 c. milk2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese (about 8 oz.) Heat oven to 425°. Prepare pastry for 9-inch, one-crust pie. In skillet cook and stir meat until brown. Drain; stir in salt, oregano, pepper, crumbs, 1/2 cup tomato sauce, onion and green pepper. Turn into pastry-lined pan and spread cheese topping over the top. Bake about 30 minutes. Cut into wedges. Stir together remaining tomato sauce and 1/2 cup catsup and serve with pie (optional).

Pie Crust: Combine flour and cornmeal. Cut in shortening until mixture is the size of peas. Sprinkle water over mixture, stirring with fork until dough holds together. Form into ball. Roll out on floured surface to fit pie plate. Fold edge to form a standing rim; flute.

Cheese Topping: Beat egg and milk. Stir in seasonings and cheese. Spread over top of filling.
