Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- brown sugar - 1 c
- water - 1/4 c
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- corn syrup - 1 c
- popped corn - 5 qt
- oleo - 1/2 c
- jar dry roasted peanuts optional - 1 item
How to make caramel corn:
Spread popcorn in a large container or roasting pan. Keep warm in oven. Combine water, oleo, brown sugar, corn syrup and salt and cook over medium heat until it reaches firm ball stage (about 250°). Remove from heat and stir in baking soda, syrup will foam. Pour over popcorn; mix well. Cook at 250° for 1 hour in oven, stirring every 15 minutes. Remove popcorn from oven and spread on opened brown paper bag. Let it sit separated until cooked and not sticky.Recipe categories: Lunch/snacks, Snacks, American.
