American chop suey
Ingredients/Components
- pkg - 1 oz
- salt - 2 tsp
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- chili powder - 2 tsp
- can tomato sauce - 1 oz
- chopped green pepper - 1/2 c
- ground beef - 1 lb
- shredded Cheddar cheese - 1 c
- can tomatoes - 1 lb
- stalks celery, finely sliced - 3 item
How to make american chop suey:
Cook macaroni in 3 cups boiling salted water in saucepan until tender. Set aside, covered, for 5 minutes; drain. Saute onion, green pepper and celery in butter in skillet until golden; set aside.Brown ground beef with seasoning in skillet, stirring until crumbly. Pour off drippings. Add sauteed vegetables, tomatoes and tomato sauce. Simmer 5 minutes. Add macaroni and 3/4 cup cheese, mixing well. Pour into greased 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake, covered, at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
Yields 6 servings, about 430 calories each.
