Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1 c
- water - 2 c
- oil - 3 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- chopped celery - 1/2 c
- tomato juice - 1/3 c
- chopped bell pepper - 1/4 c
- round steak, pounded, or cubed steak - 2 lb
How to make swiss steak:
Mix flour, salt and pepper. Dredge meat in flour mixture and brown in oil. Move meat to casserole dish. Saute celery, onion and bell pepper in skillet from which meat was removed. Make gravy by adding flour, water and tomato juice to vegetables. Pour over meat and bake in 350° oven for 1 1/2 hours. Can serve with rice or mashed potatoes.
