Swiss steak



  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • oil - 1 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • beef broth - 1/2 c
  • large onion, sliced - 1 item
  • beef round steak about 3/4-inch thick - 1 lb
  • peeled sliced carrots - 2 c

How to make swiss steak:

Combine flour, salt and pepper. Coat steak with seasoned flour. With wooden mallet, pound meat between wax paper until it is 1/2-inch thick. Cut into 6 serving pieces. Heat oil; brown steak well, all sides. Saut? onion until tender. Add tomatoes and broth. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Add carrots. Cover; simmer 1/2 hour or until meat and carrots are tender.
