  • butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 1/3 c
  • onion - 1/2 item
  • fresh white bread crumbs - 1/3 c
  • dash of white or black pepper - 1 item
  • mixed ground meat beef, pork veal or just beef - 1 lb

How to make swedish meatballs:

In a bowl, combine bread crumbs and water. Let soak for 5 minutes. Peel onion. Grate finely. In another bowl, combine meat, grated onion, salt and pepper. Add crumb mixture. Combine until well blended. Roll meat mixture into even meatballs with hands.

In a skillet, heat butter until melted and lightly brown. Add meatballs, a few at a time. Shake pan constantly and cook meatballs until brown all around and cooked through. Remove.

If you want sauce, add 3/4 cup hot water to skillet. Scrape up brownings. Strain and cook again until reduced. Add half and half for a smoother consistency, if desired. Season to taste.
