Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- soda - 1/4 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- boiling water
- egg yolks, beaten - 3 item
- self-rising corn meal - 1 c
- egg whites, beaten enough to hold soft peaks - 3 item
How to make spoon bread:
Heat oven to 375°. Grease a 2-quart casserole. Pour boiling water over corn meal. Stir to keep from lumping until cooled slightly. Add butter and egg yolks and stir until eggs are thoroughly blended. Stir in buttermilk. Blend in sugar and soda. Fold in egg whites. Pour into greased casserole. Bake at 375° for 45 to 50 minutes. Serve hot with butter.Recipe categories: Breads, < 15 mins, Side dish.
