Split pea soup
Ingredients/Components
- pepper - 1 item
- chopped onion - 1 item
- chopped celery - 1 c
- bay leaf - 1 item
- sliced carrots - 1/2 c
- thyme - 1/4 tsp
- cubed potatoes - 1 c
- dried peas - 2 c
- water 8 c - 2 qt
- ham bone with ham - 1 item
How to make split pea soup:
Wash peas. Put in water to boil. Simmer 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand 1 hour. Add ham bone, vegetables, bay leaf and thyme. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until peas are soft. Remove bone. Cut off meat and dice. Return meat to soup. Season to taste with pepper.
