Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • ground beef - 1 lb
  • olive oil - 1/4 c
  • finely chopped fresh parsley - 3 Tbsp
  • tomato paste - 2 Tbsp
  • fresh ground pepper to taste - 1 item
  • finely chopped onions - 1 c
  • red wine - 2 oz
  • tomato puree - 1 c
  • cloves garlic, chopped fine - 4 item
  • finely chopped carrot - 1 item
  • stalks finely chopped celery - 2 item
  • strips finely chopped bacon - 4 item
  • crushed dry red pepper - 1 tsp
  • canned whole tomatoes or 1 c - 1 c

How to make spaghetti sauce:

Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over low heat. Add the butter and simmer until melted. Add onions and saute until golden. Add ground beef and bacon, sauteing until brown, stirring occasionally. Add garlic, parsley, salt, black and red pepper. Cook over low heat for at least 10 minutes. Pour in the wine; cover and steam for a few minutes more. Now you are ready to add the tomatoes, puree and paste. Bring this mixture to the boiling point and add the carrot and celery. Cover again and cook over very low heat for one hour, stirring occasionally. This is enough sauce for 4 people. If you need to make a larger amount, just double the recipe. You can always make extra and freeze it.
