Sloppy joes
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- brown sugar - 2 tsp
- water - 1/4 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
- chopped onion - 3/4 c
- chili powder - 1 1
- chopped green pepper - 3/4 c
- oat bran - 2 Tbsp
- dash of hot pepper sauce - 1 item
- hamburger buns - 5 item
- can low sodium tomatoes, cut up - 1/2 1/2
- 90% lean ground beef or ground turkey - 8 oz
How to make sloppy joes:
In a large skillet, cook meat, onion, green pepper and garlic until meat is brown. Drain off fat. Stir in undrained tomatoes, the water, oat bran, vinegar, brown sugar, chili, Worcestershire sauce, salt and hot pepper sauce. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.If necessary, uncover and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes more or until mixture is desired consistency. Spoon over toasted buns. Makes 5 servings.
