Ingredients/Components

  • cornstarch - 1 tsp
  • vegetable oil - 1 item
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • chopped onion - 1/3 c
  • soy sauce - 1 tsp
  • bean sprouts - 1 c
  • dash of white pepper - 1 item
  • egg roll skins - 1 lb
  • sweet and sour sauce - 1 item
  • five spice powder - 1 tsp
  • can baby shrimp - 1 item
  • shredded cabbage pre-packaged coleslaw mix works great! - 4 c

How to make shrimp egg rolls:

Mix cornstarch, soy sauce and white pepper; set aside. Heat wok. Add 2 tablespoons oil; rotate to coat sides. Add cabbage, bean sprouts, shrimp, onion and five spice powder. (You can also add 1 teaspoon minced garlic for extra flavor.) Cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes. Add cornstarch mixture and blend well. Cool.

Add 1/4 cup filling slightly below center of egg roll skin. Fold up like an envelope. Brush last fold with beaten egg and roll up to seal. Heat oil in wok to 350°. Fry egg rolls until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve with sweet and sour sauce.
