  • packed brown sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • molasses - 2 Tbsp
  • cider vinegar - 1/4 c
  • lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 3 Tbsp
  • ketchup - 1 c
  • prepared mustard - 2 Tbsp
  • large onions, chopped - 2 item
  • chili sauce - 2/3 c
  • cayenne pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • vegetable oil, divided - 3 Tbsp
  • beef broth - 1 c
  • liquid smoke optional - 1 Tbsp
  • to 16 kaiser rolls or hamburger buns - 12 item

How to make shredded barbecued beef:

In a Dutch oven, brown roast on all sides in 1 tablespoon of oil.

Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, saut?© onions in remaining oil until tender. Add the next 13 ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour over roast. Cover and bake at 325° for 2 hours; turn the roast. Bake 2 hours longer or until meat is very tender. Remove roast; shred with a fork and return to sauce. Serve on rolls. Yield: 12 to 16 servings.
