  • milk - 1 c
  • butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
  • flour - 1 to
  • vegetable oil - 1 Tbsp
  • chopped onion - 2 Tbsp
  • bread crumbs - 1/2 c
  • medium head cabbage - 1 item
  • or less grated cheese - 1 c
  • chopped seeded green pepper - 2 Tbsp

How to make scalloped cabbage:

Chop and cook the cabbage just until crisp-tender; drain. To prepare cream sauce, melt margarine. Stir in flour until smooth and add milk. Cook over medium heat and stir until thick. Saute green pepper and onion in oil until tender. Place layer of cabbage in a lightly greased baking dish. Sprinkle with sauteed onion, pepper and grated cheese. Cover with cream sauce and bread crumbs. Bake about 10 minutes in a 350° oven.
