Split pea soup
Ingredients/Components
- salt optional - 1 tsp
- onion, diced - 1 item
- stalk celery, sliced - 1 item
- carrot, sliced - 1 item
- small green pepper, diced optional - 1 item
- green split peas dry - 1 lb
- ham bone or ham slice - 1 item
- pepper or 2 to 3 peppercorns - 1/4 tsp
- or 3 small diced hot red chili peppers - 2 item
- chicken broth and/or water - 2 qt
How to make split pea soup:
Put all ingredients in crock-pot or large pan. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 to 12 hours. (Crock-pot for 5 to 6 hours.) Add water, if needed. Start with less water when using crock-pot.Serve with tossed salad and fresh bread.
