Ingredients/Components

  • salt optional - 1 tsp
  • onion, diced - 1 item
  • stalk celery, sliced - 1 item
  • carrot, sliced - 1 item
  • small green pepper, diced optional - 1 item
  • green split peas dry - 1 lb
  • ham bone or ham slice - 1 item
  • pepper or 2 to 3 peppercorns - 1/4 tsp
  • or 3 small diced hot red chili peppers - 2 item
  • chicken broth and/or water - 2 qt

How to make split pea soup:

Put all ingredients in crock-pot or large pan. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 to 12 hours. (Crock-pot for 5 to 6 hours.) Add water, if needed. Start with less water when using crock-pot.

Serve with tossed salad and fresh bread.
