  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • red food coloring - 1 item
  • Crisco oil
  • Add sugar, oil and vinegar

How to make red velvet cake:

Beat eggs well. Add sugar, oil and vinegar. Mix well. Sift in flour and soda. Add milk slowly. Add flavoring and red food coloring. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Makes 3 layers.Frosting:1 box confectioners sugar8 oz. cream cheese1 stick margarine vanilla flavoring Soften cheese; beat with butter. Add flavoring and confectioners sugar. Mix well. Add nuts, if desired.
