Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- chopped pecans - 1/2 c
- salt
- flour - 1/4 c
- stick margarine - 1 item
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- dash of salt - 1 item
- plain flour - 2 c
- Crisco - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- Sift dry ingredients 3 times
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream Crisco and sugar; add eggs. Sift dry ingredients 3 times. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and food coloring. Beat well. Fold in soda dissolved in vinegar. Bake in 3 greased and floured 9-inch pans at 350° for 30 minutes. Cool and frost with White Frosting for Red Velvet Cake.White Frosting:1 c. milk1/4 c. flour dash of salt1/2 c. Crisco1 stick margarine1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla1/2 c. chopped pecans Combine flour and salt and gradually add milk. Cook over low heat to pudding stage. Cool. Cream Crisco, margarine and sugar. Add vanilla to pudding mixture. Combine creamy mixture and pudding mixture. Beat until smooth. Spread on cake and sprinkle top with pecans.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, American.
