Popcorn balls
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 2 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- water - 1/4 c
- cider vinegar - 2 tsp
- popped corn - 3 qt
- vegetable oil or shortening - 5 Tbsp
- small jar Brer Rabbit molasses - 1 item
How to make popcorn balls:
Discard all hard corn kernels. Use a large pan (such as turkey roasting pan) to mix in. Combine syrup, sugar, water, vinegar and salt; cook slowly, stirring constantly to 270° or to hard ball stage (test by dropping a spoonful in cold water). Remove from heat; add vanilla and oil, stirring only enough to mix. Pour over popped corn, stirring constantly until all corn is coated. Slip Baggies on both hands; grease lightly. Work quickly; shape lightly into balls. Put popcorn balls on wax paper to cool, then wrap each in its own Baggie.Recipe categories: Lunch/snacks, Snacks, Grains.
