Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • oil - 3 Tbsp
  • plain flour - 4 c
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • oregano - 2 tsp
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • dried basil - 1 tsp
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • can tomato puree - 1 1/2
  • lukewarm water - 1 c
  • or 2 cloves garlic or garlic salt - 1 item
  • Add tomatoes, puree and seasonings; simmer for about 1 hour

How to make pizza sauce and dough:

Saute onion and garlic in oil in large pan. Add tomatoes, puree and seasonings; simmer for about 1 hour. When cooked down and quite thick, remove bay leaf. Taste for seasonings. Add if necessary. Pour over pizza dough. Add cheese and toppings of your choice. Bake at 450° for 15 to 20 minutes.Pizza Dough:2 pkg. dry yeast1/4 tsp. sugar1 c. lukewarm water1 tsp. salt4 c. plain flour Combine yeast with sugar and water; let stand 10 minutes. Stir and pour into large bowl. Stir salt in flour. Add to yeast to make soft dough. Sprinkle flour on waxed paper. Turn dough onto it and knead vigorously until dough is smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl and grease both sides by turning dough. Cover with clean towel; set to rise in warm place for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until double in size. Punch down; divide in half for 2 large pizzas. Place dough in center of pan; press to edge.
