  • sugar - 1/3 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • soft shortening - 1/3 c
  • honey - 2/3 c

How to make paintbrush cookies:

Mix in a bowl the first 5 ingredients. Mix the remaining 3 ingredients in another bowl. Heat oven to 375°. Lightly grease baking sheet. Mix together the two bowls of ingredients. Chill 1 hour.

Divide dough into 3 portions. Roll dough on a lightly floured board to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes and place on baking sheet. Mix in small bowls (one for each color) 1 egg yolk, 1/4 teaspoon water and food coloring. Paint designs on cookies with egg yolk paint. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
