- chopped nuts - 1 c
- flour - 4 Tbsp
- coconut - 1 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- chopped dates - 1 c
- shortening - 1 c
- nuts - 1 c
- sifted flour - 3 c
- raisins - 1 c
- oleo - 1 c
- blackberry jam - 1 c
- grated apple - 1 item
- large apple, grated - 1 item
- Add jam and buttermilk alternating with flour and soda
How to make holiday jam cake:
Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and mix well. Add jam and buttermilk alternating with flour and soda. Add fruit and nuts last. Stir well. Bake in three greased and floured 9-inch pans for 30 to 40 minutes at 350°. Frost with filling for jam cake.Filling:2 c. sugar4 Tbsp. flour1 1/2 c. milk1 c. oleo1 c. nuts1 c. raisins1 c. coconut1 grated apple Mix sugar, flour, milk and oleo. Cook until thick, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add nuts, raisins, coconut and apple.Spread between layers and on top and sides of cake. Decorate with maraschino cherries.
