Paintbrush cookies

Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1/3 c
• vanilla - 1 tsp
• salt - 1 tsp
• water - 1/4 tsp
• soda - 1 tsp
• egg - 1 item
• sifted flour
• soft shortening - 1/3 c
• honey - 2/3 c
• Sift together in another bowl the sifted flour, soda and salt

How to make paintbrush cookies:

Mix well in bowl the sugar, shortening, honey, egg and vanilla. Sift together in another bowl the sifted flour, soda and salt.

Mix dry ingredients into shortening mixture. Chill dough 1 hour. Heat oven to 375°. Lightly grease baking sheet. Divide chilled dough into 3 parts. Flour board. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut shapes. Place on prepared cookie sheet.

With small paintbrushes, paint designs on cookies with Egg Yolk Paint. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Do not let cookies brown. Let cookies cool 2 minutes, then cool on rack.Egg Yolk Paint:1 egg yolk1/4 tsp. water Blend in small bowl the egg yolk and water. Divide among small cups. Add food coloring and paint cookies.
