  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk
  • large eggs - 6 item
  • dark corn syrup - 2 Tbsp
  • light brown sugar - 1 c
  • freshly grated nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • coarsely chopped pecans - 1 c
  • loaf French bread, cut into 1 inch thick slices - 1 (8
  • 1 stick unsweetened butter, softened

How to make oven french toast:

Topping:1/2 c. (1 stick) unsweetened butter, softened1 c. light brown sugar2 Tbsp. dark corn syrup1 c. coarsely chopped pecans Heavily butter a 9-inch square baking dish. Fill the dish with bread slices so the dish is completely covered with bread and filled to top. Mix eggs, milk, half and half, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon. Pour mixture over bread slices. Refrigerate, covered, overnight.

Heat oven to 350°. Make topping. Mix butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Stir in pecans. Spread evenly over bread slices. Bake until puffed and golden, about 40 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Yields 4 to 6 servings.
