Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- flour
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 3/8 tsp
- baking soda
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- shortening I use Imperial margarine - 2/3 c
- large eggs - 2 item
- milk - 2/3 c
- vanilla
- apples, pared and chopped - 3 c
- Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl
- light brown sugar - 1/3 c
- rolled oats uncooked - 1/2 c
- chopped nuts - 1/2 c
How to make roman apple cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Beat in shortening, eggs, milk and vanilla; mix well. Stir in apples by hand. Pour batter into a 9 x 13-inch or 9 x 9-inch pan (for deeper cake), then cover batter with topping.Topping:1 stick margarine2 tsp. cinnamon1/3 c. light brown sugar2 Tbsp. flour1/2 c. rolled oats (uncooked)1/2 c. chopped nuts Combine the first 5 ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and cook for 1 minute or use saucepan on stove.
