Onion soup
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1 Tbsp
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 4 Tbsp
- Swiss cheese, grated - 4 Tbsp
- beef broth - 5 c
- fresh ground black pepper - 1 item
- large onions, sliced thin - 3 item
- thick slices French bread - 4 item
How to make onion soup:
In heavy pan, melt butter. Add onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden. Sprinkle on flour and stir a few minutes to cook the flour. Season with salt and pepper. Add in broth, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and let simmer, partially covered, for 30 minutes.Toast bread slices. Place them in individual ovenproof bowls. Preheat broiler. Sprinkle bread with Parmesan. Pour soup over bread and top with Swiss cheese. Brown cheese under broiler. Serve immediately.
