Ingredients/Components
- boiling water
- oats - 1 c
- shortening - 1/2 c
- white sugar - 1 c
- brown sugar - 1 c
- flour
- well beaten eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- margarine
- canned milk - 1/3 c
- coconut - 3/4 c
- chopped nuts - 3/4 c
How to make oatmeal cake:
Icing:5 Tbsp. margarine1/3 c. canned milk2/3 c. brown sugar3/4 c. coconut3/4 c. chopped nuts Pour boiling water over oats; let cool. Cream shortening with white sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs and oatmeal mixture. Sift together flour, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.Icing: Combine first 3 ingredients in saucepan; bring to a boil. Add coconut and nuts. Spread on hot cake.
