Ingredients/Components

  • boiling water
  • oats - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • white sugar - 1 c
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • flour
  • well beaten eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • margarine
  • canned milk - 1/3 c
  • coconut - 3/4 c
  • chopped nuts - 3/4 c

How to make oatmeal cake:

Icing:5 Tbsp. margarine1/3 c. canned milk2/3 c. brown sugar3/4 c. coconut3/4 c. chopped nuts Pour boiling water over oats; let cool. Cream shortening with white sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs and oatmeal mixture. Sift together flour, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.

Icing: Combine first 3 ingredients in saucepan; bring to a boil. Add coconut and nuts. Spread on hot cake.
