Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 4 tsp
  • flour - 3 3
  • egg - 1 item
  • nonfat dry milk - 1/2 c
  • cornmeal - 1 c
  • chicken broth - 2 c
  • whole wheat flour - 2 c
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg
  • rye flour - 1 c
  • cracked wheat - 2 c

How to make homemade dog biscuits:

Combine all dry ingredients, except yeast. In separate bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. To this add chicken stock. Add to dry ingredients. Knead mixture for 3 minutes. Dough will be quite stiff (if too stiff, add extra liquid or an egg).

Preheat oven to 300°. Roll dough out on floured board to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter (there is now a bone-shaped cutter available). Place on ungreased cookie sheets and brush with egg and milk mixture. Bake 45 minutes, then turn off oven heat. Leave in oven overnight to get "bone" hard.
