Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 4 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • water - 4 c
  • all-purpose flour - 1/2 c
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • diced onion - 1 item
  • chopped carrots - 1 c
  • celery, chopped - 1 c
  • Cheddar cheese - 16 oz
  • medium potatoes, cubed - 6 item
  • cooked ham, chopped - 2 c

How to make ham chowder:

Bring water to a boil. Add vegetables, salt and pepper. Simmer until vegetables are done. Melt butter in a large pan. Add flour. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat until thick and bubbly. Add cheese. Pour into vegetables. Add ham. Heat thoroughly. Add hot sauce, if desired.
