German chocolate cake

- vanilla - 2 tsp
- chopped pecans - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- butter - 1/2 c
- evaporated milk - 1 c
- egg yolks - 4 item
- flaked coconut
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- softened butter - 1 c
- cake flour
- egg whites, stiffly beaten - 4 item

- Grease 2 square 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans or 3 round layer pans
How to make german chocolate cake:
Heat oven to 350°. Grease 2 square 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans or 3 round layer pans. Line bottoms with wax paper. Pour boiling water on chocolate in small bowl, stirring until chocolate is melted. Cool. Mix sugar and butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks, one at a time. Beat in chocolate and vanilla on low speed. Mix in flour and beat until batter is smooth. Fold in egg whites. Divide batter among pans. Bake until toothpick comes out clean.Coconut Pecan Frosting:1 c. sugar1 c. evaporated milk1/2 c. butter3 egg yolks1 tsp. vanilla1 1/3 c. flaked coconut1 c. chopped pecans Mix sugar, milk, butter, egg yolks and vanilla in a quart saucepan.
