Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 1/2 c
  • butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • water - 4 c
  • eggs, beaten - 2 item
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  • clove garlic, pressed - 1 item
  • quick-cooking grits - 1 c

How to make garlic cheese grits:

In large saucepan, bring water to a boil, adding the garlic, salt and pepper. Gradually stir in the grits. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the butter and 1 cup Cheddar cheese until the butter melts. Mix the eggs with milk and stir thoroughly into the grits. Turn the grits into a greased 2-quart round casserole. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup cheese. Bake in a 350° oven 1 hour or until set and browned. Yields 4 to 6 servings.
