Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1/4 c
  • water
  • cream of tartar - 1/8 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • alum - 1/8 tsp
  • heads dill - 2 item
  • Heinz vinegar - 1 qt
  • to 3 pieces garlic - 1 item
  • to 4 red peppers - 2 item
  • to 30 cucumbers for each quart - 20 item

How to make dill pickles:

Brine:3 qt. water1/4 c. salt1 qt. Heinz vinegar Wash cucumbers. Put in 5 gallon container. Cover with tap water. Let stand 4 to 5 hours. Then pack clean quart jars with cucumbers, cream of tartar, alum, bay leaf, red peppers, garlic and dill.
