Ingredients/Components
- oz unsweetened baking chocolate - 3 item
- c boiling water - 1 item
- 1/2 c cake flour regular flour works well - 2 item
- tsp salt - 1/4 item
- stick margarine or butter - 1/2 item
- c sugar - 2 item
- eggs, separated - 3 item
- c sour cream - 1 item
- tsp vanilla - 1 item
- 1/4 tsp baking soda - 1 item
- tsp red food coloring - 1 item
How to make devil's food cake:
Melt chocolate in water, let cool. Sift flour and salt together; set aside. Cream butter. Add 1 1/2 cups of the sugar and continue creaming until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks. Blend in dry ingredients alternating with sour cream and vanilla. Dissolve soda in chocolate; stir chocolate mixture and coloring into batter. Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add remaining 1/2 cup sugar and continue beating until soft peaks form; fold into batter. Pour into 2 - 8 inch round pans (lined with wax paper). Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes.
