Ingredients/Components

  • water - 1 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
  • chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • onion, chopped - 3/4 c
  • green pepper, chopped - 1/4 c
  • celery, chopped - 1/2 c
  • thyme - 1 tsp
  • can beef broth - 1 to
  • butter or olive oil - 2 Tbsp
  • can tomatoes, chopped - 1 oz
  • white rice uncooked - 1 c
  • sugar if desired - 1 tsp
  • ham or smoked sausage - 2 c
  • uncooked shrimp fresh or frozen, peeled and deveined

How to make creole jambalaya:

Saute onion, celery, green pepper and garlic in butter or olive oil until tender. Add the next 9 ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until rice is tender, about 25 minutes. Add shrimp and parsley. Simmer, uncovered, until shrimp are cooked, about 10 minutes.
