Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- baking powder - 4 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- sifted flour - 1 c
- plus 2 Tbsp - 1 c
- yellow cornmeal - 1 c
- cooking oil or soft shortening - 4 Tbsp
How to make corn bread:
Sift together in a large bowl the flour, cornmeal, salt, sugar and baking powder. Add the milk and egg. Beat for 1 minute, then add the cooking oil or soft shortening. Beat for 1 more minute. Place 2 teaspoons oil in an 8-inch cake pan. Pour in batter. Oil will rise, greasing pan. Bake in a 375° oven for 25 minutes.
