  • sugar - 2 c
  • cinnamon
  • eggs - 4 item
  • vanilla
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 1 c
  • nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • ginger - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped walnuts
  • unsweetened cocoa - 3/4 c
  • cloves - 1/4 tsp
  • fine dry bread crumbs - 1 item
  • can pumpkin 1 3/4 c - 1 lb

How to make chocolate pumpkin cake:

Thoroughly grease a 3-quart fluted tube pan; sprinkle with bread crumbs and set aside. Mix well the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices. Set aside. In large bowl, cream butter with sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in half the flour mixture, then the pumpkin and remaining flour mixture just until well blended. Stir in walnuts.

Turn batter into pan; smooth top. Bake in bottom oven for 80 to 90 minutes or until pick inserted in middle of cake comes out clean. Remove from oven; let stand on rack 15 minutes. Invert on rack; cool completely. Cover and let stand several hours or overnight before serving. Dust top generously with confectioners sugar, if desired.
