  • salt
  • butter - 3 Tbsp
  • baking powder - 3/4 tsp
  • shortening - 1/3 c
  • plain flour - 1/4 c
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • chicken broth
  • ice water - 3 Tbsp
  • chicken - 2 c
  • poultry seasoning - 1/4 tsp
  • hard-cooked egg, sliced - 1 item
  • peas and carrots
  • boiled potatoes, diced - 3 c
  • Cook over low heat until bubbly, stirring constantly

How to make chicken pot pie:

Melt butter in large saucepan; blend in flour. Cook over low heat until bubbly, stirring constantly. Gradually add broth and milk, alternately. Cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spoon this in 2-quart casserole and top with flaky pastry.Pastry:1 c. flour3/4 tsp. baking powder1/2 tsp. salt1/3 c. shortening3 Tbsp. ice water Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening and add water. Roll into 1/4-inch thickness and trim to fit casserole. Turn pastry edges under, and press firmly to rim of casserole. Cut slits in top. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
