Ingredients/Components

  • flour - 1/4 c
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • chopped onion - 1 c
  • chopped celery - 1 c
  • cooked chicken - 4 c
  • chicken broth - 2 c
  • chopped green pepper - 1 c
  • American cheese - 8 oz
  • salt and pepper - 1 item
  • noodles - 12 oz
  • blanched almonds - 1/2 c
  • olives - 1/2 c
  • sliced mushrooms, drained - 8 oz

How to make chicken noodle casserole:

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Cook noodles according to directions; drain and mix with chicken. Melt butter; saute celery, onion and green pepper. Sprinkle with flour, gradually stir in broth until thickened. Season with salt and pepper; stir in cheese. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly; stir in olives and mushrooms. Pour over chicken and noodles. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes. Makes 10 to 12 servings. Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated. Allow 15 more minutes for cooking.
