  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • stick margarine - 1 item
  • cornstarch - 4 Tbsp
  • cold water - 4 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1 item
  • soy sauce - 4 Tbsp
  • chicken broth - 3 c
  • celery - 4 c
  • can water chestnuts - 1 item
  • onions - 2 c
  • cans mushrooms - 2 item
  • large fryer - 1 item
  • brown gravy sauce - 2 Tbsp
  • cans drained Chinese vegetables - 2 item

How to make chicken chow mein:

Melt butter and saute onions for 5 minutes. Add celery, salt, pepper and chicken broth. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add Chinese vegetables. Mix. Heat to boiling point. Add mushrooms and water chestnuts, if desired. Add thickening made of water, cornstarch, soy sauce, sugar and gravy sauce and cook 1 minute. Add chicken and remove from heat. Serve over rice with chow mein noodles.
