Cheddar chowder
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 2 c
- salt
- flour - 1/4 c
- boiling water - 2 c
- margarine - 1/4 c
- 8 oz - 2 c
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- chopped onion - 1/4 c
- sliced carrots - 1/2 c
- sliced celery - 1/2 c
- diced potatoes - 2 c
- cubed cooked ham - 1 c
- Cover; simmer 10 minutes
How to make cheddar chowder:
Add water to potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper. Cover; simmer 10 minutes. Do not drain. Make white sauce with margarine, flour and milk. Add cheese; stir until melted. Add ham and undrained vegetables. Heat; do not boil. Makes 6 to 8 servings.Other Ways: Varsity Chowder: Omit ham. Add 8 slices crisply cooked, crumbled bacon.School Day Chowder: Omit ham. Add 1/2 pound sliced frankfurters.
Midwest Chowder: Omit ham. Add 2 cups (1-pound can) cream-style corn.
