  • water - 2 c
  • diced potatoes - 2 c
  • diced carrots - 1/2 c
  • diced celery - 1/2 c
  • chopped onion - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • butter
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • milk - 2 c
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded - 2 c
  • cubed ham - 1 c

How to make cheddar chowder:

White Sauce:1/4 c. butter1/4 c. flour2 c. milk2 c. Cheddar cheese, shredded1 c. cubed ham Combine water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper in large kettle. Boil 10 to 12 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, make White Sauce. Melt butter, add flour and stir until smooth (about 1 minute). Slowly add milk; cook until thickened. Add grated cheese to White Sauce and stir until melted. Add White Sauce and cubed ham to vegetables (that have not been drained). Heat through. Serves 6.
