Caramel bars
Ingredients/Components
- butter, softened - 1 c
- vanilla
- packed brown sugar - 1 c
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- egg - 1 item
- all-purpose flour - 2 c
- light corn syrup - 1/2 c
- butterscotch-flavored chips - 1 c
How to make caramel bars:
Heat oven to 350°. Mix brown sugar, butter, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour. Press evenly into bottom of ungreased pan (13 x 9 x 2). Bake 20 to 22 minutes or until brown. Cool 20 minutes. Heat corn syrup, 2 tablespoons butter and butterscotch chips in 1-quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until chips melt. Remove from heat. Cool 10 minutes.Spread butterscotch mixture over baked layer. Sprinkle 1/2 the bars with candy and the remaining 1/2 with nuts. Gently press into butterscotch mixture. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours or until butterscotch is firm. Cut into 6 rows by 6 rows. Makes 36 bars.
