sugar
eggs - 2 item
salt - 1/4 tsp
butter - 1/2 c
soda - 1 tsp
all-purpose flour
cream of tartar - 2 tsp
soft shortening - 1/2 c
colored sugar - 1 item

How to make butter cookies:

Mix shortening, butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Combine flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Roll into balls the size of walnuts. Dip top in colored sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
