Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- celery seed
- cloves garlic, chopped - 3 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- green peppers, sliced - 2 item
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
- medium sliced white onions - 4 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Do not peel cucumbers. Slice. Add onions, peppers and garlic. Add salt and cover with cracker ice and mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours and drain. Do not rinse. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to boiling. Seal in hot jars. Makes about 7 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
