Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- celery seed
- onions, sliced - 6 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- sliced cucumbers - 1 gal
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Combine onions, cucumbers and salt. Cover with ice and let set 3 hours. Drain well.In large kettle bring to boil the rest of ingredients. Add cucumbers and onion and boil just until they change colors. Pack in jars and seal.
