Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking powder - 1/8 tsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- butter or margarine, melted - 1 Tbsp
- self-rising soft wheat flour - 2 c
How to make biscuits:
Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until shortening is the size of peas. Add buttermilk and stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a heavily floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times.Roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes. Brush with butter.
