Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 4 c
  • Crisco - 2 Tbsp
  • lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
  • carrots - 6 item
  • bay leaves - 2 item
  • beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes - 2 lb
  • potatoes and onions as desired - 1 item

How to make beef stew:

Thoroughly brown meat in hot Crisco; add water, lemon, Worcestershire, sliced onions, bay leaves and seasonings. Cover; simmer 2 hours or until meat is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Remove bay leaves. Add vegetables; cover and cook 30 minutes or until done.
