Old-fashioned beef stew
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- boiling water - 4 c
- lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
- paprika - 1/2 tsp
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
- clove garlic - 1 item
- carrots - 3 item
- potatoes - 5 item
- fat - 2 Tbsp
- small onions - 1 lb
- medium onion, sliced - 1 item
- dash of allspice or cloves - 1 item
- beef, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes - 2 lb
How to make old-fashioned beef stew:
Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat, turning often. Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion and seasonings. Cover; simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking. Add carrots, onions and potatoes. (Cut up carrots and potatoes.) Cover and cook 30 minutes more, or until vegetables are done.
