Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- pepper - 1 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- carrots - 4 item
- beef stew meat - 2 lb
- tomatoes - 1 c
- large onion - 1 item
- potatoes, peeled and halved - 6 item
- water or tomatoes - 1 c
- flour, optional - 1 item
How to make beef stew:
Cube stew meat in 1 1/2 inch cubes; flour and brown. Add tomatoes, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Simmer gently for 30 minutes; add potatoes, carrots, onions, and another c. of tomatoes or water; cover and cook slowly until vegetables are tender.
