  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 Tbsp
  • water - 2 Tbsp
  • oil - 1 Tbsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • vinegar - 1/4 c
  • cloves - 2 item
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • ground beef
  • minced onion - 1/3 c
  • dry bread crumbs - 1/3 c
  • 13 oz - 1 lb
  • reserved pear juice - 1 c

How to make bavarian meatballs:

Beat egg; add milk, bread crumbs, salt and pepper. Mix well. Add onion and ground beef; mix gently, until ingredients are just combined. Shape into 2-inch meatballs. Brown slowly in oil in a large skillet. Drain excess fat from pan.

Drain pears, reserving 1 cup syrup. Combine juice, vinegar, cloves and bay leaf; pour over meatballs. Cover and simmer gently about 20 minutes. Add pear halves and simmer 10 minutes longer or until meatballs are done.

Arrange meatballs and pears on warm platter and keep warm. Remove bay leaf and cloves from sauce. Combine flour and water; add to sauce in skillet. Cook and stir until thickened. Spoon over meatballs and pears. Serve with noodles.
